from the prestigious Central Academy of Commercial Art and attended
the University of Cincinnati. He worked for twenty years as an art
director at various ad agencies. during those years, he continued to
paint and stay connected with fine art. Frustrated with the lack of
time he was able to donate to his passion to paint, he left the
world of commercial art and devoted himself exclusively to
developing his painting.
Dave won many awards for his commercial work as well as his fine
art. His work is collected world wide. His accolades include the
distinguished Arts For The Parks, being juried into the show's
"top one hundred" three years, and winning first place,
Region 1 in 1989. He was selected by the state of Kentucky to
portray the 1992 Kentucky Bicentennial celebration with a
commemorative poster. David is recognized by the state of Kentucky
for his contribution to the arts. David's automotive art has
received awards at the Concours D'Elegance in Cincinnati, Ohio in
1996, 1998 and 2001. David's passion for automotive art was
influenced by his grandfather who accompanied his as a youngster to
new car unveilings and perusing car lots.
David feels "every picture tells a story. I like telling
stories about people and their memories". The themes of each
painting is fueled by his own fondness for the past, determined to
recreate the past as a way of preserving it. "I start each
painting with a theme and I'm often adding details to the very
end!" The final piece is the collection of memories, stories,
love of history and historical accuracy. "I'm not actually
trying to recreate a photo but what the mind's eye remembers".
